Tivnu holds info sessions for interested teens

Tivnu Building Justice, a Jewish gap year program in the Pacific Northwest focused on exploring the connection between Jewish life and social justice is holding information sessions for interested teens on Feb. 2 and Feb. 24 at 8 pm EST/5 pm PST on Zoom.

During these information sessions, you will hear from current and past participants, Tivnu parents, and staff. Whether you or your child are interested in the program or you’re a youth professional looking to share about Tivnu with your teens, you’ll leave with the information you need. They’ll also have time for live Q&A, and you are welcome to email with questions in advance.

A current participant shared their insights into how every aspect of Tivnu – including cooking during the September wildfires – has enabled her to make a difference.

“I was inspired to find the acts of resistance in the food I was preparing and eating at Tivnu. Some elements were obvious: we often discussed politics and planned letter-writing parties during our meals. Other aspects of activism were buried deeper, under all the mushrooms and smoked paprika. By obeying COVID safety guidelines during a natural disaster, we stood up for the vulnerable members of our community. We demonstrated to ourselves, our families, and our neighbors that we wouldn’t let the effects of a devastating wildfire thwart our commitment to public health.” – Emma Nathanson

As a Tivnu Gap Year participant, you’ll connect Jewish life and social justice through individualized internships, discover the Pacific Northwest, and create a home together in Portland, Oregon. Whether you spend your year advocating for immigrants’ rights, creating mentorships for LGBTQ kids, building tiny houses or cooking for houseless Portlanders, you’ll know you made a difference. To learn more, check out this OpEd from the New York Times.
