2021-07-23T16:00:00-07:00
Where:
Oregon Park
2950 NE Oregon St.
Portland

Welcoming all chess players ages 10+

The camp will be geared toward those just beginning their chess journeys, and will emphasize how the history of chess intersects with Jewish identity and mitzvot.

During the camp, we will learn the basics of chess by analyzing the games of Jewish and non-Jewish chess players, and placing these games into the context of players’ lives and histories.  We will focus in particular upon the games and contributions of women and people of color, and will discuss how chess institutions continue to marginalize along vectors of gender and race.

For safety, we will require all students to wear masks while at camp. Seats will be spread out to maintain social distancing, and once-a-day games between students will last a maximum of 20 minutes.

Space is limited
