Generation to Generation; Healing Generational Trauma

On Sunday, March 18 from 4-6:00 PM the Havurah Synagogue will host Portland author and trauma healing coach, Emily Wanderer Cohen. Bring up the Holocaust in a conversation and you’ll often hear, “That was so long ago. It’s over. It’s history.” But to descendants of Holocaust survivors, or survivors of trauma inflicted upon any people – such as the Native Americans – it’s anything but. What most people don’t realize is that the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of those who survived the Holocaust live with the invisible weight of the trauma they didn’t experience first-hand—every single day. Emily Wanderer Cohen will discuss how intergenerational trauma can appear both mentally, physically, and emotionally and then she’ll lead a hands-on workshop to demonstrate how writing about trauma can help one heal from it. Cohen’s book, Generation to Generation: Healing Intergenerational Trauma Through Storytelling, will be available for purchase. Suggested donation: $5-$15. The Havurah is located at 185 N. Mountain Ave., in Ashland. Call 541-488-7716 for more info.
