A Little Shabbat at Shaarie Torah

Join Rabbi Josh Rose and Dorice Horenstein for a lively Shabbat full of singing, greeting, stories, eating and new friends.  Come welcome Shabbat together with our young community. Appropriate for families with children in preschool, 2 years and older.

Free and open to all, no prior knowledge/Hebrew required
Interfaith families welcome!

Please join Congregation Shaarie Torah for a special Shabbat morning service. At this service, we will include new melodies, explore the service with some reflections on the prayers themselves, and chant according to the Triennial cycle of Torah readings.  It will be a mix of the beautiful and familiar traditional Shabbat morning service and new ideas and energy.  This service meets in the Chapel downstairs on the third Saturday of the month.

Ilana Davita’s mother was Jewish, but chose atheism and communism. Her father was Episcopalian, but chose atheism and communism. While coming of age in New York in the 1930s with a missionary nurse aunt, a mystical story writing “uncle” and Orthodox cousins, Davita discovers who she is and who she will choose to be.

Purim: A Night of Magic and Miracles @ Congregation Shaarie Torah

Join us at Congregation Shaarie Torah for a fun and magical Purim celebration.  Magician Hart Keene (from America’s Got Talent) will dazzle and amaze with his special brand of magic performance.  Traditional chanting of the Megillah (the Book of Esther), fun activities for kids, and food and drink will round out the evening (can someone say HAMENTASCHEN!). Please join us for this special event – and, of course, come in costume!​

5:00pm: Food, Drink and Kids Fun!
6:15pm: Traditional Megillah Reading (Book of Esther)
7:15pm: The Magic of Hart Keene
8:00pm: The Purim Party Continues!

“G.rand O.ld P.urim” Spiel & Drinks, 7:30-8:30 pm

Join us for our Purim Party on March 23!  The first 45 minutes include face painting, fortune telling, games of chance (with prizes!), crafts, and eating and drinking. We’ll have both a table for family drinks and a monitored adult beverage table. Please bring Hamantaschen or fruit to share, and drinks if you wish.

At 7:20 pm we’ll have a costume parade and a sing-a-long led by Ilene Safyan.

Our adult spiel, “G.rand O.ld P.urim,” begins at 7:30 pm. This year’s spiel features Haman, the Dangerous Man with the Comb-Over; Esther, whose name was Hillary before she converted; Mordechai, who feels the Bern – and is the Bern (pictured here in photo by Barbara Gundle); and Havurah’s own Rachel Maddowitz.
