Vedem: The Underground Magazine of the Terezin Ghetto
Vedem Underground examines the literary magazine written by Jewish teens imprisoned at Terezin, a Nazi camp in Czechoslovakia during the Second World War. Using pop-art graphics, drawings and paintings, and the prose and poetry, these brave adolescents secretly wrote and illustrated the longest-running underground magazine in a Nazi camp. Vedem (Czech for “In the Lead”) documented their voices with defiance, humor and heartbreak. The exhibition breaks down their 800 original pages and reconstructs them in the form of a contemporary magazine. Curated by Rina Taraseiskey and Danny King.
To Tell The Story: The Wolloch Holocaust Haggadah
On view in the East Gallery: Commissioned by Helene and Zygfryd B. Wolloch, The Holocaust Haggadah is richly illustrated with lithographic prints by David Wander and calligraphy by Yonah Weinreb that link the story of liberation from ancient Egypt to the Holocaust.

Love to read, watch films and make new friends? Then this club is for you! We will be reading books and watching film adaptations that relate to some aspect of Judaism. Our first book/film is by bestselling author, Jennifer Weiner, and is entitled “In Her Shoes,” a New York Times bestseller. We’ll first talk about the book and then watch the movie starring Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette and Shirley MacLaine. For more information, email: kgoldhammer@nevehshalom.org
Join the Dad’s Night community at Willamette Park (6805 SW Macadam Ave.) for a special Shabbat picnic for the family with challah, blessings and storytelling with Rabbi David Kosak and Rabbi Michael Cahana. Music by the fantastic Justin Jude! Bring picnic and blankets or chairs. Suitable for all ages, or come without kids. Dads Night is group of Portland Jewish dads who love to get together with the rabbi for good conversation and drinks. Brought to you jointly by Congregation Neveh Shalom and Congregation Beth Israel, along with the Mothers Circle Program. Meet at the playground.
During Tefilla Lab services, we will introduce the community to different melodies, niggunim and other innovations. The goal is to provide a space for experimentation where we can try out what prayer forms might deepen our kehilla’s experiences. Our hope is that some of these experiments will yield results that we can incorporate more regularly into Neveh Shalom’s communal Shabbat spirituality. We hope you will join us!

An interactive look at the recently published book Pirkei Imahot, the Wisdom of Mothers, the Voices of Women. Together we will look at a few pieces of text from the original Jewish text Pirkei Avot: Ethics of the Fathers and respond to them from our modern point of view. We’ll then look at what modern wisdom we live by and how we can continue to share the wisdom held within each of us.
