Making God Laugh @ Sandy Actors Theatre
Jan 31 @ 7:30 pm

Making God Laugh follows one typical American family over the course of thirty years’ worth of holidays. Starting in 1980, Ruthie and Bill’s grown children — a priest, an aspiring actress, and a former football star — all return home, where we learn of their plans and dreams as they embark on their adult lives. The empty-nester parents contend with their own changes, too, as old family rituals are trotted out and ancient tensions flare up. As time passes, the family discovers that, despite what we may have in mind, we often arrive at unexpected destinations.

Adults are $18, Seniors Veterans and Students are $15, and Children are $13

Torah Troop for 3rd-5th Graders

1st and 3rd Shabbat every month at 10:00am

Torah Troop allows families at Congregation Neveh Shalom to move into the main sanctuary while still enjoying youth-oriented activity. At 10:00am, families meet in the main service. After the beginning Torah service, youth join their friends for a lesson on the Torah portion (parsha) of the week with adult leaders, and come back to help lead the Adon Olam at the end of the service.

As always, we end with our community for lunch!

Life According to Morty and Ruth @ The Sandy Plaza
Feb 1 @ 7:30 pm
Presented by Triangle Productiions

Ruth is late, well she always seems to be late, but tonight the show has started and she’s rushing into the theatre just as the show as begun. Morty has been left to find parking and he too will be entering the theatre late.

Ruth can’t find her seat, she apologetically interrupts the actor on stage, and then within minutes takes over the show. Just as she gets going, Morty enters looking for his seat and find Ruth on stage. How will tonight end? Through jokes from the Borscht Belt comics such as Mel Brooks, Joan Rivers, Sophie Tucker, Mae West, Totie Fields Buddy Hackett and many others, Morty and Ruth are about to tell you all about LIFE.

Sex, Beauty, War and Despair: Adult Themes in the Five Megillot with Rabbi Kosak

Sunday, February 2 – June 21, 9:45-11:15am, (12 weeks total; full schedule available with registration)

The five megillot are some of the enduring classics of world literature. Jews read these scrolls publicly on holidays throughout the year, but without the regularity with which we read the Torah. As a consequence, these important sections of the Bible are less familiar to the average synagogue goer. In this course, we will have an opportunity to examine the megillot, their deeply human themes, and the light they can shed on our own lives.

Cost: $36 ($72 for non-members).
