Soul Box Project @ Rose Schnitzer Manor, CSP
Aug 29 @ 7:00 pm
Soul Box Project @ Rose Schnitzer Manor, CSP | Portland | Oregon | United States
The Soul Box Project’s goal is to create a visual representation to make gunfire victims visible – a mind-boggling, heart-wrenching representation of the 168,558 people killed or injured by gunfire from 2014 to 2017.

The Project collects hand-folded paper boxes – a Soul Box – for every person killed or injured by gunfire in the United States since 2014, which will be displayed as art installations. The first large-scale installation of 36,000 Soul Boxes – representing the average number of people shot every year in the U.S. – will be displayed at the Oregon State Capitol on Feb. 15, 2019. Leslie Lee, local visual artist and Soul Box founder, has a vision for 200,000 boxes to be on the National Mall by 2020.

Use your creativity to take a stand against gun violence, while spending an evening with friends and neighbors. Cedar Sinai Park has partnered with the Soul Box Project – a project coordinated locally, to have a national impact.
Join us  and use the creative materials we provide to create your own paper origami “soul box,” which will make its way with others on a traveling display to promote dialogue and political action.

Two Worlds: A Rock & Soul Selichot Experience

Saturday, September 1
8:00pm: Wine & Cheese | 8:30pm: Selichot Service

Our Selichot experience this year brings two worlds of music together. Building on last year’s service, Rabbi Kosak and Cantor Bitton will capture the best part of tradition with beloved High Holiday melodies, and also offer up themes of Selichot through traditional melodies and contemporary rock and pop music. Prepare for the High Holidays in a moving, meaningful way through music connecting us to the ways we are striving, forgiving, and seeking. Free and open to all.

If you are not able to make the service, you can listen in by visiting: https://nevehshalom.org/audio-streaming.
