The June Siddur study class will cover the Sh’ma, which in this case means the “Sh’ma Yisrael …” sentence, the v’ahavta, v’haya im shamoa, and the tzittzit section. This is considered one of the most important parts of our prayer service.
We’ll discuss the nature of the oneness of God as proclaimed in the Sh’ma and how the paragraphs of the Sh’ma relate to the key themes of creation, revelation, and redemption. In the process, we’ll learn what we are really saying each time we say “Amen.”
The class will be in the classroom at St. Mark’s, Sunday, June 21, 4:00 to 5:30 PM. The discussion will be based on Chapter 4 in “My People’s Prayer Book, Volume 1,” but all are welcome even if you do not have a chance to read the material in advance.
