P’nai Or invites the community to IN THE PRESENCE OF LOVE, An experience of THE TREMBLE OF LOVE: A Novel of the Baal Shem Tov. Set in the richly textured Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth of the 1700s, this exquisite reimagining of one of history’s most revered and revolutionary mystics transports readers back in time to experience the true meaning of power and the timeless grace of love.

Ani will read passages from THE TREMBLE OF LOVE, after which we will pause for a brief and lovely Havdalah ceremony, followed by discussion and book signing. P’nai Or is happy to be hosting this special opportunity to be in the presence of the Baal Shem Tov’s loving wisdom as it moves through the vessel of this novel.

“The Baal Shem Tov is an authentic hero who communicates and celebrates empowering love, joy, and wisdom. This book is a delight to read and reminds us of how true spiritual resources can be cultivated and communicated in our own vulnerable time. –Rabbi Sheila Weinberg, creator of the Jewish Mindfulness Teacher Training Program and author of God Loves the Stranger

“The message of the Baal Shem Tov―ecstatic seeker, compassionate healer, mediator, mystical teacher, and peacemaker―is as needed today as it was in his lifetime: our capacity to love and care for the other is the path to lasting peace and harmony.” ~ Dr. Paula Green, founder and senior advisor, Karuna Center for Peacebuilding

Generation to Generation; Healing Generational Trauma

On Sunday, March 18 from 4-6:00 PM the Havurah Synagogue will host Portland author and trauma healing coach, Emily Wanderer Cohen. Bring up the Holocaust in a conversation and you’ll often hear, “That was so long ago. It’s over. It’s history.” But to descendants of Holocaust survivors, or survivors of trauma inflicted upon any people – such as the Native Americans – it’s anything but. What most people don’t realize is that the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of those who survived the Holocaust live with the invisible weight of the trauma they didn’t experience first-hand—every single day. Emily Wanderer Cohen will discuss how intergenerational trauma can appear both mentally, physically, and emotionally and then she’ll lead a hands-on workshop to demonstrate how writing about trauma can help one heal from it. Cohen’s book, Generation to Generation: Healing Intergenerational Trauma Through Storytelling, will be available for purchase. Suggested donation: $5-$15. The Havurah is located at 185 N. Mountain Ave., in Ashland. Call 541-488-7716 for more info.
