This class focuses on giving contemporary parents the tools they need to bring holiness into their daily lives. We’ll begin by taking a look at the soul planted within us and how we can integrate it into other aspects of our life. We’ll rediscover the spiritual side of food and eating; and appreciate the wonder of the human body. We’ll explore the many blessings that invoke holiness at bedtime, when we awake, and when we are outside appreciating the wonders of nature. We’ll learn the central core at the heart of every Jewish prayer service. Each class will introduce blessings and prayers with an explanation of their meaning and their accompanying melodies. Join professional storyteller Brian Rohr (a fabulously compelling and engaging teller) for a series of three classes exploring the wisdom and art of storytelling in the Jewish tradition. Learn how to uncover the magic and power of the old stories, as well as techniques for making them come alive for others. We’ll learn how to choose, interpret, and perform stories from the Torah, Talmud, and Chasidic and Folk traditions, using improv, guided instruction, and lots of hands-on experience. Tremendous fun, and not to be missed!

We will gather each week to find some moments of quiet. We’ll start with a brief teaching and/or song, and then sit together in silence. We’ll end with brief optional hevruta (Jewish study) sharing. This is for folks with experience in meditation, those with curiosity but no experience, and those who wonder what happens when Jews aren’t talking the whole time. Havurah’s Dorot “Short & Sweet” Shabbat service was created to welcome families with young children, but the service and potluck are for all ages! Young ones look up to the older ones, and older ones enjoy the younger ones’ joy and singing. A casual, family-friendly and music-filled service, it begins with candle lighting, Kiddush and challah, and continues with prayers and music led by Havurah members.
