Nov 15 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Michael Winograd & Christina Crowder

100 Years of Klezmer

On Friday, November 15 at 7:30 PM join Klezmer clarinet virtuoso Michael Winograd and Accordion whiz Christina Crowder for over 100 years of Jewish music in one night! Critics will say it can’t be done! “Impossible!” naysayers will cry out!  “A century’s worth of music in a single concert??!!” ; But Winograd & Crowder, against all odds, will prove them wrong. Don’t miss out on this historic occasion.

About the musicians:

In 2019, clarinetist Michael Winograd released his long awaited LP “Kosher Style,” re-affirming his central role in today’s international Klezmer landscape.  He tours the world performing with his band The Honorable Mentshn, collaborates with Pakistani superstar Zeb Bangash in the group Sandaraa, records and plays with a veritable who’s who of today’s top Klezmorim (Frank London, Itzhak Perlman, Geoff Berner, Alicia Svigals, The Klezmer Conservatory Band,  Daniel Kahn, to name a few), appears in stadiums with Vulfpeck, produces records and is the Artistic Director of KlezKanada and a founder of the Yiddish New York festival.

Christina Crowder has been performing and researching Jewish music for over twenty years, beginning in Budapest, Hungary and continuing with a Fulbright grant to Romania to document Jewish music. Her current research is examining the connections between Jewish, Bessarabian, and Greek music through a project with Walter Zev Feldman at NYU Abu Dhabi, and she is the Operations Director of the newly-founded Klezmer Institute. She has been a guest instructor in klezmer accordion and ensemble performance in the US, Canada, and Europe, and was both musical director and performer in the 2019 Oregon Shakespeare Festival production of the Broadway play “Indecent.”

Tickets are available in advance at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4418660 and at the Music Coop, 268 E. Main St. in Ashland. No tickets will be sold at the door. The Havurah Synagogue is located at 185 N. Mountain Ave. in Ashland. Call 541-488-7716 for more info.
