Concert pianist, David Rothman, is a virtuoso when it comes to performing the complete great works of piano repertoire. In 2002, he played from memory all the Beethoven sonatas in a period of five weeks. In 2015, he performed the complete works of Frédéric Chopin. With accompanist, Michael Barnes, he has also played twelve concertos, including the Brahms Concerto #2 and Schumann Concerto in A minor.
Now David Rothman tackles all of the piano sonatas of the great Classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
David Rothman was born in Toronto, Canada in 1962. When he was two, his family moved to Los Angeles. At 6, Mr. Rothman began to study piano, and at ten, he was accepted into the Menuhin School in England. Nadia Boulanger was among the panel who accepted Mr. Rothman into the school. At 17, he was accepted into the Curtis Institute where he studied with Mieczyslaw Horszowski.

Please join Ravit Baer, Deputy Consul General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest, for an update on developments in Israel-US relations and other issues of interest to our community.
About Ravit Baer: Before taking on this assignment in San Francisco, Ms. Baer served for five years at the Department for Multilateral European Organization at the Europe Division. In that position, she was responsible for coordinating Israel’s cooperation with the European Union, NATO, OSCE, UFM, and was also responsible for coordinating the implementation of the European Neighborhood Policy in Israel, as well serving as the Israeli National Contact Point for several European programs. She has been a career diplomat at the Israeli Foreign Service since 2004. She served as the Deputy Head of Mission to the Israeli Embassy in the Ivory Coast (2005-2007) and to Cyprus (2007-2010). Ravit Baer holds an L.L.B (2001) and an L.L.M specializing in constitutional and administrative law (2003), both from the Hebrew University.

Vedem: The Underground Magazine of the Terezin Ghetto
Vedem Underground examines the literary magazine written by Jewish teens imprisoned at Terezin, a Nazi camp in Czechoslovakia during the Second World War. Using pop-art graphics, drawings and paintings, and the prose and poetry, these brave adolescents secretly wrote and illustrated the longest-running underground magazine in a Nazi camp. Vedem (Czech for “In the Lead”) documented their voices with defiance, humor and heartbreak. The exhibition breaks down their 800 original pages and reconstructs them in the form of a contemporary magazine. Curated by Rina Taraseiskey and Danny King.
To Tell The Story: The Wolloch Holocaust Haggadah
On view in the East Gallery: Commissioned by Helene and Zygfryd B. Wolloch, The Holocaust Haggadah is richly illustrated with lithographic prints by David Wander and calligraphy by Yonah Weinreb that link the story of liberation from ancient Egypt to the Holocaust.

Come one, come all, for a night of joy, masquerade, and retelling the story of some courageous individuals from long ago whose valor saved the Jewish People. We will interweave some chanting of the Megillah with dramatic narration and off-the-wall spieling. Get ready to make some noise as we recount the fateful events that led to the spoiling of the wicked plot of you-know-who! Followed by dancing, revelry, pomp, circumstance and l’chaiims.
Havurah will provide pizza (so please RSVP so we have enough), and people with last names starting with A-L are asked to bring a salad or side dish to share. People with last names starting with M-Z are asked to bring a dessert. All food should be on plates or in bowls ready to be served. All are encouraged to bring hamantaschen and adult beverages to share. RSVP here!
Tzedakah – Please consider making a cash donation for Portland Homeless Family Solutions to support family homeless shelters or bring a book for children ages 1-10 to read at a local community center. Spanish or bilingual English/Spanish books are preferred. These books do not have to be new; well-loved books will also be treasured.
