Spring 2021 Session begins January 21. This 18-week course is taught by members of The Oregon Board of Rabbis, representing a variety of Jewish affiliation. A carefully constructed curriculum includes Jewish history, life cycle events, holidays, ritual and daily practice, theology, study of Torah and contemporary Jewish America. While not a conversion class, most OBR members consider it a prerequisite for students beginning study for conversion. Classes 7-9 pm, Thursdays, normally at rotating Portland area synagogues, but due to COVID-19, this term will be held online via Zoom. Register online,

Lone Soldier Interview with Naomi Shapiro, Rabbi Isaak’s Niece @ Zoom program
Mar 21 @ 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Hear IDF servicemen and women without immediate family in Israel are honored in Israel as Lone Soldiers.  Naomi Shapiro recently completed her service as a Lone Soldier.  Despite variations by year, these young people average 5000 in number—1500 to 2000 from the US–40% serving in combat units.

Naomi grew up in Cleveland.  She joins us from Jerusalem, now an Olah Hadashah, newly enrolled as an undergraduate at the Hebrew University.

Hear about her unique experiences as a young American volunteer in the Israel Defense Forces.
