Throughout the month of September, the MJCC and PJA communities will be collecting Back-to-School Items for Schoolhouse Supplies.
Items can be dropped off in the blue bin located in the MJCC Lobby.
High Holiday Family Camp
September 14-16, 2018
Bring in the Jewish New Year at B’nai B’rith Camp on the Oregon coast with your family.
Activities include a fun-filled High Holiday and Shabbat celebration, arts & crafts, athletics, canoeing, swimming and much more.
Price includes 6 meals, 2 nights’ stay and great activities.

The Hallie Ford Museum of Art in Salem presents “Witness: Themes of Social Justice in Contemporary Printmaking and Photography from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation” through Dec. 20 in the Melvin Henderson-Rubio Gallery and the Maribeth Collins Lobby.
Drawn from one of the legendary contemporary print collections in the United States, “Witness” explores issues of race, identity and social justice in contemporary printmaking and photography. The exhibition has been organized by Portland art historian and scholar Elizabeth Bilyeu and explores four thematic sections: Stories and Histories, Pressures of Pop Culture, Challenging Expectations of Place and Unconventional Portraits. The exhibition features 82 prints by 40 nationally and internationally recognized artists, including Enrique Chagoya, Lalla Essaydi, Mildred Howard, Hung Liu, Nicola Lopez, Wendy Red Star (Apsáalooka), Roger Shimomura, Kara Walker and Marie Watt (Seneca).
LeRonn Brooks, an assistant professor of African and African American Studies at Lehman College of the City University of New York, will deliver an illustrated lecture on the theme of social justice in modern and contemporary art on September 29 at 5 p.m., Admission to this series of lectures is complementary and they will be held in the Paulus Lecture Hall at the Willamette University College of Law located at 245 Winter St. SE, Salem, Oregon.

CBI Offers three inspiring Kol Nidre Services. For families with young children, we hold a 5:00 PM Tot Service in Goodman Hall, where you can expect stories, music, mindfulness, and inspiration. Across the street in the Main Sanctuary, our Early Traditional Service starts at 5:30 PM and our Late Traditional Service starts at 8:00 PM.

Rabbi Hannah Laner is the new rabbi at P’ani Or at Portland. She has over 25 years of experience as rabbi and cantorial soloist, creating and leading services for High Holidays, Shabbat, and other holidays. She is a professional Jewish educator who infuses her teaching with a passionate love of Torah and tradition.
Yitzhak Husbands-Hankin is a composer, singer, cellist and guitarist. He served as a Hazzan and Rabbi for nearly forty years in the Jewish community of Eugene, Oregon, U.S.A. Music is at the very heart of his spiritual life and he seeks to connect with the transcendant realms of Spirit as well as the depths of the human heart through his music.
