Gail Sherman, Professor of English and Humanities at Reed College, leads a discussion about Nathan Englander’s powerful short story, What We Talk About when We Talk About Anne Frank.
In the story two couples argue about who would hide whom in the event of another Holocaust. The story alludes to Raymond Carver’s short story, What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, but with a very different worldview.
Attendees are encouraged to read the story in advance and participate in a lively conversation.
You can read the story here: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2011/12/12/what-we-talk-about-when-we-…

Second Thursday of the Month, 6:30
In this monthly class we will explore different topics in Torah, ranging from mussar (Jewish self improvement), Jewish spiritual practices, the inner meaning of the holy days and more. Rabbi Rose will introduce the class to the texts, give individuals time to learn on their own and lead a discussion. Participants will walk away with a deeper knowledge of Judaism and practical tools to bring Jewish teachings and values into their life. Knowledge of Hebrew is not required and the class will be of interest to those with some familiarity with the topic and newbies as well.
