The Havurah invites the community to a Sunset Dinner at Grizzly Peak Winery in Ashland; The Best of Both Worlds, on Thursday, August 27 at 6:00 PM with light jazz by the Paul Schmeling Trio. Ashland Gourmet will provide appetizers from the Middle Eastern kitchen with delights such as tabouli, hummus, baba ganoush and more, followed by an entrée from the Spanish Sephardic tradition of Chicken Marbella and dessert of fresh fruit and baklava. The all inclusive price per person, which includes the wonderful wines of Grizzly Peak, is $60, and tables of eight can be reserved for $440. All reservations must be made in advance no later than August 19 by calling 541-488-7716. The event is a benefit for the Havurah.
Wrap yourself in “herstory!” Ever thought about making your own Tallit? Come learn more about them, and make one yourself! Sisterhood is hosting a Women’s Tallit program, where you can learn about the history of women’s use of a talllit, as well as the basics of making your own. If you have a Tallit you wear, or have made, please bring to share! We will re-convene at a later date and plan to tie our “tzitzit” together. Join photographer Elliot Burg as we discusses his photographs on view in the East Gallery (starting Oct 4). In early 2017, photographer Elliot Burg decided to seek out and capture images of the place in Eastern Europe where his Jewish grandfather and namesake Eli (pronounced “Ellie”) had come from. The exhibition is the story of that journey.

Join Kenneth Helphand, Philip H. Knight Professor of Landscape Architecture Emeritus University of Oregon, for a talk on Ghetto Gardens in conjunction with our current exhibition. The Last Journey of the Jews of Lodz offers an extraordinary rare glimpse of life inside the Lodz Ghetto through the lens of Polish Jewish photojournalist Henryk Ross.
It seems improbable, but gardens were made in the ghettos of Lodz, Warsaw, Kovno and more. Based on research in Poland, Israel and the US this illustrated talk speaks about the creation and meaning of these gardens based on the first person accounts of their creators and witnesses. Share the joys and challenges of breastfeeding, feeding and new parenting! Join the group if you are breastfeeding, formula feeding, pumping, bottle feeding or supporting a breastfeeding parent. Group moderated by Lara Greenberg, a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). Expert guest speakers will join us for two of the groups to share knowledge on hot parenting topics, including infant gum/tooth care and postpartum mood disorders. Healthy snacks and activities for older siblings provided.
