JFCS volunteers feed 755 for Thanksgiving

With the help of volunteers, Jewish Family & Child Service assembled and delivered Thanksgiving food boxes to 162 families, feeding 755 individuals.

The community donated $4,354 worth of nonperishable food and the balance was covered via a grant from the Safeway Foundation and the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland’s Turner Grant.

The Nov. 18 event drew 131 volunteers including assemblers, drivers and other support.  Volunteers gathered at the Mittleman Jewish Community Season. The day also included games for both adults and kids alike and of course a nosh.

With this annual event, Jewish Family and Child Service brightens the season for needy individuals, families, Holocaust survivors and other seniors with delicious, nutritious Thanksgiving dinners, complete with turkeys and all the trimmings.
